Zinde’s son appears in court over murder

Twenty-eight-year-old Mark Warona Zinde has appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court in the North West. He has been charged with themurder of his 50-year-old mother, Hope Zinde.

Zinde was found dead at her home at Pecanwood Estate in Hartebeespoort Dam in the boot of her car on Saturday.

It's believed she was murdered last Monday.

A TV and radio journalist at the SABC from 1991 to 2006‚ she was appointed to the public broadcaster's board in 2013.

Accused of his mother's death, Mark Zinde looked calm but disorientated before Magistrate Moses Maswanganyi. He was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother after being taken in for questioning by the police on Saturday.

He was also charged with possession of drugs. Police were called to the house after Zinde's son allegedly refused to open the door to a family friend who had been trying to get hold of her since Wednesday. They found a bloodied 10kg object in the bathroom and a large quantity of drugs.

His case has been moved to the Brits Regional Court while investigations continue. He is also expected to undergo psychiatric evaluation. The accused will appear in court again on Friday.
